Regional Development Policies in the European Union and Turkey

Regional development policies are policies aiming to increase the welfare of the region by using the economic and social potential effectively, based on the sustainability and development of human capital in line with the interaction of the regions with the environment. Another purpose of regional development policies is to mobilize local dynamics. With the effect of Keynesian economic policies after the Second World War, the necessity of state intervention came to the fore in order to reduce the interregional development disparities. Socioeconomic differences between regions have led to the development of various regional development policies. In this study, the development process of regional development policies in the European Union and Turkey has been examined and the ultimate targets of the European Union and Turkey in regional development have been emphasized.
